Application
The main use of acetonitrile is as a solvent. As a solvent for extracting butadiene, synthetic fibers, and certain special coatings. A solvent used in the petroleum industry to remove tar, phenols, and other substances from petroleum hydrocarbons. Used as a solvent for extracting fatty acids from animal and vegetable oils in the oil industry, and as a reaction medium for the recrystallization of steroid drugs in medicine. When high dielectric constant polar solvents are required, a binary azeotropic mixture of acetonitrile and water is often used: containing 84% acetonitrile with a boiling point of 76 ℃. Acetonitrile is an intermediate in pharmaceuticals (vitamin B1) and fragrances, and is a raw material for manufacturing triazine nitrogen fertilizer enhancers. Also used as a denaturing agent for alcohol. In addition, it can also be used for the synthesis of ethylamine, acetic acid, etc., and has many applications in fabric dyeing and lighting industries
