Application
Shikimic acid is a key precursor in the synthesis of many alkaloids, aromatic amino acids, indole derivatives, and chiral drugs. Recently, shikimic acid has been used as a starting material for oseltamivir (the active ingredient of Tamiflu), a neuraminidase inhibitor used to treat and prevent influenza A and influenza B.
