Application
Benzyl benzoate can be used as a solvent for cellulose acetate, a fixative for fragrances, a flavouring agent for confectionery, a plasticiser for plastics, and an insect repellent. When used as a fragrance ingredient, product specifications may refer to Hu Q/QBH68-79, with an ester content of 99% or higher. It serves as a fixative for various floral fragrances and is the sole and most effective solvent for solid fragrances that are difficult to dissolve in perfume compositions; it enables synthetic musk to dissolve in perfumes and is also used in the formulation of medicines for whooping cough and asthma. In addition, benzyl benzoate is used in textile auxiliaries, scabies ointments, and pesticide intermediates; in textile auxiliaries, it is primarily used as a dye-fixing agent, levelling agent, and repair agent; it is widely applied in the fields of polyester and compact fibres.
