Application

When lactic acid acts on the epidermis, it reduces the cohesion between keratinocytes, accelerates the shedding of aged keratinocytes, enhances the metabolic rate of epithelial cells, promotes skin renewal, and ensures a more orderly arrangement of epithelial cells, resulting in a smoother and finer stratum corneum. At the same time, lactic acid facilitates the shedding of keratin plugs around the pores and unblocks the hair follicle ducts, effectively preventing pore blockage. As for its action on the dermis, lactic acid stimulates the proliferation and reorganisation of hyaluronic acid, mucopolysaccharides, collagen and elastic fibres, thereby increasing the skin’s moisture content. This results in firmer, more elastic skin, with a corresponding reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. The primary functions of lactic acid on the skin are to treat acne and reduce wrinkles.
