Introduction

2,3-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid is a colorless columnar crystal, slightly soluble in water, insoluble in benzene and ether. It can be used as a pharmaceutical intermediate, pesticide intermediate, and organic synthesis reagent.


Production method

It is prepared by oxidation of quinoline with nitric acid.

The preparation method is to use acrolein, diethyl oxaloacetate and ammonium chloride as raw materials, in the presence of a catalyst in ethanol, heat the reaction under reflux, cool to obtain pyridine-2,3 dicarboxylate, and then hydrolyze to obtain the product.


Uses

Inhibits the synthesis of glucose.

Pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid is an intermediate of the herbicide imidazopyrine.

Quinolinic acid is a dicarboxylic acid with a pyridine skeleton. It is an intermediate for the synthesis of nicotinic acid, niacinamide, nikethamide, etc., and is also a reagent for the determination of copper ions.
